I have dialysis counseling this afternoon, which involves conversation with my Nephrologist and one of the nurses from the dialysis unit to take the mystery out of renal replacement therapy, as well as going over my options for dialysis access. Given that my eGFR is now 19, and based on progression since diagnosis, one can safely assume I’ll be in end stage renal disease before the end of the year, making this a somewhat time sensitive matter. That wasn’t what I wanted to hear. Not even a year ago I was told that it’s statistically improbable that I’ll progress to ESRD before I’m a little old lady. Unfortunately my disease isn’t playing by the rules, or paying attention to the statistics. Shame on it.
