Awesome Blogger Award

I’m flabbergasted when someone thinks enough of me to nominate me for an award.  I’m also a bit of a stinker when it comes to awards.  If I don’t pay it forward immediately, I’ll forget to do it.  So, here I am, doin’ it…a week after the fact.  Kayla from Intrestinal Fortitude nominated me for the Awesome Blogger Award.  It goes without saying, Kayla’s blog is also awesome so go harass her (be nice about it, you monsters!).  Thanks, Kayla!

This award was created by Maggie – Dreaming of Guatemala. She created the award “For the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.

Hmm.  There’s laughter, at least. 😉

Rules of engagement:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Include the reason behind the award.
  • Include the banner in your post.
  • Tag it under #awesomebloggeraward in the Reader.
  • Answer the questions your nominator gave you.
  • Nominate at least 5 awesome bloggers.
  • Give your nominees 10 new questions to answer.
  • Let your nominees know they’ve been nominated!”

Kayla’s Questions:

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Anywhere with mountains and a temperate climate.  Also, preferably far far away from other people.  I want to be able to walk outside without pants on and without being concerned that someone will call the national guard claiming my pale skin causes blindness to the onlooker.

Who is your hero?

Wonder Woman, obviously

Is all really fair in love and war?

Eh, neither one is fair but at least in war, you have the benefit of not being in love with the enemy.  Hopefully.

What is your favorite book?

At the moment?  The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett.  I love-love-love him!

Would you live in a different decade if you could?

I’d go back to 2000-2010 if I get to rewind my age to reflect the year.

Who is your favorite actor?

Uhhhh, Katie Sackhoff aka Starbuck.  She’s a badass.

Do you believe in magic?

Not yet, I don’t

What is one terrifying thing you want to do?

Get a degree in something I’ll never use – like art history or wildlife biology

Books or movies?

Books, then movies

What would you tell younger you, if given the chance?

“Chill the fuck out.” (not that it would help anything – I suppose I should say “embrace the weed”)

Awesome Nominees:

The Delicious Monster

The Dookie Diaries

Lifelong Bullshit

Xunnie in Wonderland

Bipolar for Life

Picnic with Ants

Questions for the Nominees:

If you found out you had 24 hours to live, what would you do with your remaining time?

Do you have any irrational fears?  If yes, please explain.

What is your favorite song?

Have you ever done the truffle shuffle?

Describe yourself in four words or less (?)

If you were a comic book character, would you be a hero or a villain?

What would your special power be?

Do you have any habits that drive other people bonkers?

Does “normal” exist?

Chips or cookies (or both at the same time)?

Blogger Recognition Award

Nikki from Undiagnosed Warrior nominated me for a blogger recognition award.  I’ve been following her for over a year and she has gone through an army of doctors and undergone many many tests, while trying to find a diagnosis for her life altering symptoms.  From an informational standpoint, she does an amazing job of explaining all of the tests she has had done, with detail and illustrations, so someone else having the same test in the future will know what to expect.  She is also brutally honest about how it feels, both emotionally and physically, to live with chronic illness while constantly being passed around between specialists, or being told it’s in her head (I know this feeling well).  Thanks for the shout out, Nikki!

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.

2. Write a post and display the award.

3. Share in your post a brief history of how your blog started.

4. Give advice to new bloggers.

5. Nominate other bloggers you feel deserve the award.

6. Let each blogger know that you have nominated them.

The Birth of Polishing Dookie:

Before this blog, I was an anti-social food blogger.  Learning how to cook from scratch changed my life for the better – until my then undiagnosed illnesses crossed over into nightmare mode.  I was sick, my marriage was failing (I should write a post about this in the future), and I didn’t know what to do about any of it – so I created this space to purge all of the nastiness that was bouncing around in my head.  Between blogging, driving aimlessly, and hours of actual therapy, I made it through one of the most difficult periods of my life.  Last year I had a taste of the single life while my husband was eating fried silk worms in S. Korea and that’s when Polishing Dookie really came to life.  It’s a chronic illness blog.  It’s a blog dedicated to powering through the difficulties in various relationships.  It’s about gaming, music, and pop culture.  It’s about art, creativity, and atypical thinking.  It’s about finding humor in unlikely places and flipping off the Universe for being a dickweed.  It’s about community and connecting with some of the coolest people I’ve ever met.  Polishing Dookie is me “making the best of the shit I’ve got”.

My advice to “new” bloggers:

Read my posts, then use them as a guide of what not to do. 😉

The only rule I have for myself is attempting to limit myself to one post per day.  I often break this rule, so I guess it’s more of a guideline.  I enjoy visiting all of my blog buds’ posts and comment if I’m moved to to so (which automatically goes into spam if the person hasn’t de-spammed me – damn yous, WordPress!)

Broken Down Body

It Could Be Worse

Sickly Stardust vs. Everything

Chronically Kmads

Crohn’s & the Real Girl

Kelly Alive

I’d also like to open this to anyone else who wants to participate.  It’s a free-for-all!

As always, thanks for reading!  Hugs and party slugs.

The “Miranda Sings Award”

Lisa @ Life Of An El Paso Woman has nominated me for this spiffy award.  I met Lisa when she hosted a New Year’s Eve virtual party on her blog, and have been following since.  Her blog features a little bit of everything, from interviews to spotlights on artists and musicians local to El Paso.  There’s something for everyone who visits her webspace, and of course Lisa is one of the kindest, coolest bloggers you’ll meet. 🙂

Who is Miranda?  I have no idea.  Apparently she sings.  I went to college with a Maranda (called her Mar) and traded Easy Mac for ramen noodles.  If that’s not classy, I don’t know what is!  Mir, not Mar, wants us to love ourselves.  It sounds simple, right?  When I think of things I love, it’s often things like puppies and cookies.  Rarely do I look inward.  That’s what this award challenges us to do.

The rules are:

*Thank the blogger who nominated you.

*List seven things you love about yourself.

*Nominate & notify seven bloggers about this award.

*You can’t nominate the person who nominated you.

*Don’t forget to display the award in your post.

7 Things I ❤ About Myself

-I keep it real

-I have a ton of love to give

-I can laugh, no matter what situation I’m in

-My wicked sense of humor

-I’m honest, sometimes to a fault

-I can burp the alphabet

-I love the person I’ve become (most of the time), as shaped by my experiences and the people I’ve met

And the nominees are…

In My Own Little World
